What is Philips Lumea 9000 Series?
It is the latest Philips Lumea model, introduced in late December 2020, to resume conquering the market, after 4 years of dominance by the Philips Lumea Prestige models.
It seems obvious to note that Philips Lumea has put every new technology it has in the at-home IPL & Laser hair removal, into the Lumea 9000 series, in an attempt to assert dominance over and over again.
The 9000 series uses the most unique Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) technology, to reduce hair growth gradually, until you can reach a point of experiencing the hair-free experience for months!
Skin tone and hair color
Before we jump into the features of the device, you should decide if the device suits your skin tone and hair color, if it doesn’t, then the whole guide won’t be of any use for you, if it suits your body, then you can proceed.
Philips Lumea 9000 series is safe to use on light to medium-dark skin tones which are I to V from Fitzpatrick skin tones. However, you shouldn’t use the device on darker skin tone and it is not likely to work as the device will detect the skin tone is too dark.
Moreover, effective on dark to dark blonde hair colors. However, the device doesn’t work on lighter hair colors, red, grey, and white hairs.
Features
Newest IPL Technology
It’s the main feature of the device. Philips Lumea has installed the best, newest, and most advanced IPL technology available, into the 9000 Series.
This means, that the 9000 series is capable of providing the best results, in the shortest periods of time.
It’s widely known that a hair removal session can be so boring, and making it shorter and more effective, is a goal Philips Lumea successfully managed to deliver with its newest IPL technology.
Fast Results
The newest technology has revolutionized the procedure of hair removal for good. The 9000 series can now provide up to 92% hair reduction in just 3 sessions.
These results have been clinically proven by Philips Lumea, but keep in mind that it varies from body to another, depending on the skin tone and hair color and hair density and other similar factors.
Furthermore, a full-body treatment can be carried out in just 40 minutes, while other competitors to the device take +1 hour to conclude it.
+20 Years of lifetime
Normal devices can work for months or a couple of years, but ultimate IPL hair removal devices, can work up to 15 or even 20 years.
Philips Lumea 9000 series is no different, it has 450,000 lamp flashes, and with simple math, it can provide up to +20 years of full body treatments.
This – compared to previous models- is 5 years more than what the Prestige can provide, as it has 250,000 lamp flashes that can work up to +15 years.
Works Cordless
Most of our top10 devices in the ultimate guide are not cordless, they only operate corded, which can sometimes get in your way during treatment.
Moreover, working cordless can provide 2 comforting features: enjoying privacy, and additional ease of use.
Who doesn’t enjoy some “me time” from time to time? Working cordless can give you that easily, in the bathroom, a tiny corner in your bedroom, or anywhere else.
Long & short power cords can make it a bit tricky to perform the treatment as easy as you’d like, especially when trying to reach for the lower legs, or armpits.
Distinguished Attachments
When ranking the Philips Lumea 9000 series, we gave it a full score in variety. The reasoning behind that lies in its distinguished attachments.
The BRI957 and BRI958 come with 4 attachments, while the BRI955 comes with 1 less attachment.
Those attachments are well built, designed carefully to suit every body part separately.
Collectively, the 4 attachments provided in BRI957 & BRI958 models of the 9000 series, allow you to treat: Arms, legs, stomach, underarms, bikini, upper lip, chin, and jawline.
Safe & Certified
The Philips Lumea products, starting with older versions up to the 9000 series, are CE-Certified to work in Europe, and clinically proven to provide accurate and safe results.
However, it’s not yet FDA-Cleared to operate in the US, which has been the case for years already.
Additionally, this didn’t affect their power in the market around the world, ad the Philips Lumea still ranks top5 in nearly every retailer specializing in IPL hair removal devices.
Ergonomic Design
Most IPL hair removal devices come in a default design, not the Philips Lumea 9000 Series. It’s designed to look like a gun aimed at your to-be-treated body part.
This gun-shaped design provides great grip for your hand to use as precise as you’d like it to on certain body parts.
Moreover, the design itself is a bit bulky, but that’s how big the “brain” of the device is, and by brain, I mean newest technology.

- BRI957: with 4 attachments for face, body, armpits and bikini
- BRI958: with 4 attachments for face, body, armpits and bikini

Philips Lumea 9000 Price
Let’s move on to one of the controversial parts about this device, the price for Philips Lumea 9000 series BRI957 is ~479 pounds (~$650), and the price is similar for BRI958.
However, despite having fewer attachments, the BRI955 is 20 pounds more expensive, at ~499 pounds (~$675).
The controversy continues, as despite being the newest and most advanced, the 9000 series is less expensive than the Prestige itself!
This accumulates to a conclusion, Philips Lumea has put everything into this 9000 series, even the price is more efficient than previous models.

Our Philips Lumea 9000 Ratings
As Hair Removal Devices’ Experts, we have developed a 25points rating system, to categorize and rank the IPL & Laser Hair Removal devices.
The Philips Lumea 9000 Series ranked #2 on the list, and here’s the full score:
As you can see in this chart, The 9000 Series never ceases to amaze us in how effective and highly rated it can be. It earned the #2-3 by achieving an overall score of 86.4%.
The Philips Lumea 9000 Series provides fast & effective results, as high as 92% hair growth reduction in as low as 3-4 weeks only, that’s how it got the full mark in effectiveness.
In Variety as well, the 9000 series earned a full mark, due to providing 4 amazing attachments capable of covering every angle of your body, including but not limited to: Arms, legs, stomach, underarms, bikini, upper lip, chin, and jawline.
However, the price of the 9000 series is nearly set at $650, which is expensive compared to other IPL devices, but still cost efficient enough to deserve 50% in that criteria.
People’s search for the Philips Lumea 9000 has only started in early 2021, but despite the relatively low number of searches “couple of hundreds” on monthly basis, the search for it is skyrocketing in no-time, and it’s doubling on monthly basis as well, that’s how it’s earned the 66.7% in popularity.
While testing the Amazon Ratings, I found out that the hundreds of customers who reviewed the 9000 series, gave it an average of 4.6 out of 5 stars, which is -in our ranking- a 92% in Amazon Rating.
And with those Hundreds of Amazon Reviews, the 9000 Series earned a full mark in the number of customer reviews on Amazon.
However, It’s a new device introduced in December 2020, so it didn’t deserve a point in Age category.
Philips Lumea Older Versions
The Philips Lumea reached the 9000 after some notable versions, including: Philips Lumea Prestige, Philips Lumea Advanced, and Philips Lumea Essential.
The Essential & Advanced versions of Philips Lumea are cost-efficient, and their compatibility with most skin & hair types and colors is marvelous, but they were proceeded with the Prestige.
The Prestige has conquered the market for years, top seller in most online retailers, elevating the Prestige to the #1 rank on our at home laser hair removal devices’ ultimate list.

Philips Lumea 9000 Series Costumer Reviews
I surfed through hundreds of Costumer reviews on the 9000 series, Good & bad alike, and here’s a good summary of the users’ experience with the newborn device.
Positive Review
Sara Tasker from UK, bought the device on 26th April 2021, and provided her own review of the BRI955 device: “This has honestly exceeded all of my expectations in less than a month.”
What did the Lumea 9000 series grant Sara? She answers, “It “Hair Removal” has been a problem since I was 10 or 11 – cruel kids and boys at school, followed by years of self-image problems. Now I’m older I know women’s body hair is entirely natural and removing it just patriarchal nonsense, but it’s a nonsense I still haven’t managed to get away from, somehow.”
She continued, “Every hair removal method I’ve ever tried has always ended up in the same place – ingrowing hairs and regrowth in less than a day. Summer is always fairly miserable, with my legs burning after seaside paddling, and glowing with daily shaving rash.”
However, after using the 9000 Series BRI955, tables have turned in a positive manner for Sara, she explains, “It’s been 3 weeks and I still have not had to shave again since that initial week of treatments. There are a few patches on my legs, yes, but they’re growing so slowly that I was able to treat them again this week (my first time redoing it), still without needing to shave again first.
“My underarms and bikini area are still stubble-free enough to wear swimwear with confidence. My legs no longer have that darkness where new hair growth is visible beneath the skin,” Sara continues her review.
Her experience reached a new level, she stressed, “for the first time in adult memory, I have zero ingrowing hairs to contend with, anywhere. I cannot stress how unusual all of this is for me. I’d normally have more regrowth than this in 3 hours, never mind in 3 weeks.”
Negative Review
“R.S.” from the UK as well, bought the same device on 26th June 2021, but things didn’t go as smooth as it did with Sara.
“R.S.” had a problem with using IPL on her tattooed body part.
She said, “When I watch guidance how to use it on Philips app was never mentioned you cannot use on tattoo, I didn’t mean to use it anyway on tattoo but small side got erected!!! Now I have scar.”
This is a pretty common mistake, sometimes you just go on with your treatment before doing proper research on the device you intend to buy.
Board Certified Family Physician Dr. Teresa Camden suggested that you should avoid using IPL on tattooed areas, and always use a sunscreen (even when indoors) on the tattoo itself when doing IPL treatment.
With that being said, you should never use the IPL on tattooed parts, it’ll damage both the part, and the tattoo will become less dense, so it’s a lose-lose situation.

As I understand from Philips official site, this model is upgrade of the previous model prestige. I think you should take this in your considerations.
You’re right, it can be accounted to as an Update.
However, as the tech used & number of flashes have been changed or improved, and those are two main features of the device, we can also separate those devices, same as Philips Lumea Company did.
Does Philips offer money back guarantee for Philips Lumea 9000 series BRI958 in United Kingdom ?
Yes.
For the latest Philips model 9000 series, how do I know the type of electrical outlet? Is it type G?
Yes. There’s a Philips Lumea 9000 Series BRI958/60 that has the type G electrical outlet.
and there’s BRI958/00 as well.
Great review for Philips Lumea 9000, but I have just one question about first use What I should do after 3 days of first session when hair regrow ? should I repeat the session?
Thanks Izabella.
In your case, remove it with the traditional method you normally use, and wait until the next scheduled session.
Carrying out a new session won’t solve it for you.
But, with 3-4 sessions, it shouldn’t be growing back again at that speed, so you won’t need this solution more than couple of times max.
If I bought philips lumea 9000 from one of stores on the internet and ship it to Turkey, how I can get maintenance if I need it?
This depends on which market you buy your device from, as such information should be stated in your receipt.
